Our Story

Clam Idiots were born on a cocktail napkin at a dive bar in Moss Landing, California in September of 2007. Founding members Kevin Dean Gander and Alexander Ramirez decided that karaoke wasn't fulfilling their musical dreams and began brainstorming band names and song titles that fit their sophomoric, immature, comedic nature. Alex suggested the name Chlamydia, which Kevin quickly adapted to Clam Idiots, and the band was up and running.

Alex and Kevin sought out like minded morons that would appreciate and inspire the same sort of goofiness that they loved. They found Brian Caudillo, Joseph Peoples, and Ricardo Mendoza to round out their insanity.

The feud between Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton inspired Clam Idiots first song, "My Crotch Is On Fire," after Paris nicknamed Lindsay, "Fire-Crotch." Years later, the single was included on Best Of Nitro Circus: Volume 8 DVD.

Clam Idiots first live show was on New Years Eve, December 31st 2007 at the world renown Clamphitheatre. Fermin Lopez was the first promoter to book the band at the now demolished Chihuahua's Bar and Grill. Tony and Pamela Avery were Clam Idiot's first paid gig at Tony's Super Pizzaria. There were many early free shows at such landmarks as Rod Hall, The Morales Palace, and Hollywood Hills, before finally getting a permanent residency at Moss Landing Inn, thanks to bartenders extraordinaire Jackie and Diana.

After a year and a half, Ricardo left the band to pursue bull riding. Alex left active duty in Clam Idiots in October of 2010 to be a father, later replaced by current drummer Ian McLaughlin. Ian was a prodigy of Rock Band, with very little drumming experience. But Ian was the only fan to have attended every single Clam Idiots show up to that point, so it seemed fair to give him a shot. Six months later, Ian was Clam Idiots' permanent drummer.

Alfonso Magallon joined the band on April 4, 2014, filling in for Joseph Peoples on bass at East Village, opening for Los Angeles punk band The Henchmen.

Clam Idiots pride themselves on being the BEST drunk rock band in the world. We're about fun, laughter, stupidity, and beer. We play a mix of popular covers and our own brand of Clamtastic rock n roll and cheesy listening.

In January 2015, Ian and Kevin formed a sister band named FLICKER w/ Clam Idiots alumni Alexander Ramirez and Jacqueline Newman.

Kevin Dean Gander has a solo band called "kdg."

Alfonso Magallon has a solo band called "Elora."
